This is a popular place for its buffet if you're in the mood of loading up. My waistline definitely means I had to go ala carte. The char kuey tiau is alright, doesn't take me back to Penang but it will do. The fried chempedak is so nice tough. I love it. Reminded me of my old days.

Good option Good ambiance Good hospitality No bathroom Robots are fun to watch. Must visit

I only went here for Chendol so my review will only be about that. Let's just say it was so incredible that I had to go back the next 3 days. I was sad to leave Singapore because I know it would be hard to find good Chendol in California. Customer service was good and quite satisfactory.

Glad we found this Penang eatery no need to travel to Malaysia leow!!! If not the best in Singapore then it must be one of the best #diediemustry

This is an authentic Penang cuisine in Singapore. I managed to have one bite of each dish. I only cover 75% of all the food. Those I have tasted was very tasty and authentic. I skipped the western salad and about 50% of the kueh because 1) I was too full, and 2) not much of a sweet eater. Lobak; kueh tutu; char kueh teow; rundang; curry chicken, nasi lemak with 5 sauces; chicken satay is the best I have ever tasted; nice burbu chacha. The place is a must visit in Singapore

An old family favourite we have been visiting ever since their early days at Science Park. Standard of the food is still excellent and the servers super efficient with clearing of plates etc. and they do so with a smile too. Spread is exhaustive and if you had to try everything, you probably need to skip breakfast and lunch in order to do the dinner buffet any justice. The price is also good value for money. My absolute must haves: penang laksa, jiu hee eng chye, fruit rojak, chicken satay, kueh pie tee, char kway teow, beef rendang and nasi lemak. Leave space for the dessert - everything is good! Especially the kueh kosui and the kaya. I'm always up for seconds.

I came with very high expectations after reading the very entertaining reviews on char kway teow! Tried to temper them because I often end up disappointed after looking forward to meals too much and it's really my fault. But this def met my expectations! On the char kway teow ($9.90): I was one of those that was outraged it didn't include any pork lard or sausage - isn't that what makes it char kway teow?! The answer is no. This was fried so impeccably. I cannot say it any better than the long ode to their char kway teow below, but I loved the texture of the flat noodles, the generous and juicy prawns, the egg scrambled into it, the crunch of bean sprouts. The taste is lighter and sweeter than the usual hawker center/Hill St/Outram Park char kway teow. I've only tried the Penang style at Killiney before, but of course this was way better. (I also feel less guilty eating this, since there's no pork it must be healthier right? So there's that!) We also shared the penang hokkien mee ($8.90), otherwise known as prawn mee in most coffee shops. It came with mee hoon mee (they didn't ask which type of noodles we preferred), generously topped with egg and shallots. This was also good - the broth was thick and denser than other varieties, with a more prominent prawn taste. It wasn't particularly outstanding though, and I prefer the Beach Road version with a tasty but lighter soup. The chendol was incredibly disappointing though, I wish we didn't order it. I ate this with the memory of incredible chendol I had in KL a week ago, with sweet coconut milk and thick gula melaka drizzled over it. This version had far too much ice and far too little taste. I could barely taste coconut milk. Maybe this is the Penang style and I'm just ignorant? I did like the whole red beans inside though; usually, restaurants and stores seem to use the mushy canned type. The area is actually pretty large and expansive inside, and most of the office crowd chose the buffet. The buffet looked impressive but so so heavy. I can just imagine myself pigging out cuz there're too many of my favorite dishes all in one place: beef rendang, prawn mee & char kway teow, fried belachan chicken, ngoh hiang, rojak, curry, etc etc. And these are all high-carb, heavy dishes, so I'm not sure if I can stomach all of that. I'll try it some other time when I have some mental + tummy preparation.

Lunch buffet per pax SGD$23.90++ Forget the rest - just head to the first spread from the entrance, rush to the Char Kuay Teow. This is as close as it gets to Penang's CKT you can find in Singapore and to have it fried in a large amount plus ALL YOU CAN EAT. I can't remember if there are cockles in it. The assam laksa is really good too! The broth could have abit more mackerel bits but that's really nitpicking. It's a live station (someone prepares it for you) but if you want, feel free to take control of what goes into your bowl of soupy goodness. There's mint, onions, some unidentified bits that smells like prawns, pineapple and some chop veg. There's also prawn paste on the side. The nyonya kuihs are not bad as well. It doesn't taste very sweet which is a really good thing - I had a few kuih talam, steamed glutinous rice with kaya, red bean kuih. The Chng Tng lacks flavor though - so I decided to pass that to my colleagues heehee. I didn't manage to try other desserts (pulut hitam, and I totally missed the fridge just opposite the dessert line). Also didn't try the cendol. I'll be back after I've managed to work off this meal :)

I didn't opt for buffet this time round as I didn't want to gorge senseless (again). Going ala carte, i ordered: 1) Fried Rice - this was for my daughter who doesn't know how to appreciate the other dishes. Truth be told, the rice was fried fragrantly and the chicken wing was beautifully seasoned & fried. 2) Penang Prawn Mee - I had mine with thick bee hoon. I love the fresh prawns and the thick flavourful soup! Add chilli flakes for kicks and vola! Magic in a bowl! 3) Char Kuay Tiao - this is the bomb! I honestly feel their char kuay tiao can rival many hawker ones out there. Of course theirs is more expensive but they do serve theirs with generous and fresh ingredients. If I am younger, I would have conquered their buffet in style but now, I think ala carte is more my ability. Will return again.
